India’s electric vehicle evolution is already well and truly under way and Mahindra has taken the headlines by storm once again with the launch of the unique Mahindra XEV 9e.

The all-electric SUV combines futuristic looks, state-of-the-art tech and performance that simply thrills, making a powerful statement in the growing EV market. For the tech-savvy, environment-conscious Indian shoppers, the XEV 9e is not just an electric car it’s a machine of the future designed for the present.

The latest concept car is called the Mahindra XEV 9e, which was unveiled at the company’s FutureScape event alongside other electric vehicles in the pipeline.

The XEV 9e but, reigned supreme as it showcased premium design lines, interior of the future and claimed to possess an exceptional driving range. It’s obvious that Mahindra is not getting in the EV race, but to head it with bold designs and innovative tech.

Bold and Futuristic Exterior Design

The Mahindra XEV 9e is striking to look at with its powerful and futuristic physique. It is incredibly sleek and aerodynamic with bold lines and a high-tech frontend which captures the intense persona of the vehicle. The closed-off grille, front and rear LED light bars and flush door handles are all hallmarks of a modern EV design language. The alloy wheels are designed to make the SUV stylish and aerodynamic.

LEDs have been incorporated stylishly right from the C-shaped daytime running lights to the ultra-slim projector headlamps, everything screams futuristic. The glass roof adds to the overall looks by imparting a coupe-like stance and heightening the already spacious airy feeling in the cabin. The design mirrors Mahindra’s coming ”Born Electric” architecture- clean, contemporary, dynamic and looks to the future.

Premium and High-Tech Interior

Slide inside of the XEV 9e, and you are whisked away into a tech-filled minimalist realm. The cabin is clearly a departure from the typical Mahindra interior. Take its dual-screen layout one for the digital driver display and another mammoth infotainment touchscreen that consumes the dashboard. Space is modern and minimalist, with lighting effects and recycled materials of high quality throughout the cabin.

The dash gets a modern and sleek design with touch-sensitive controls, a next-gen steering with backlit Mahindra badge, a floating centre-console with a rotary gear selector, wireless charging and a lot of stowage space. Mind is based on Mahindra’s Adrenox EV OS which provides live EV analytics, connected car tech, voice commands, over-the-air (OTA) updates, and AI powered personalization.

Passenger convenience has not been neglected either. Seats are covered in vegan leather; the rear seats have plenty of leg and shoulder room. There’s also a panoramic sunroof, multi-zone climate control, ventilated seats and a 3D surround sound system provide a premium experience.

Powerful Electric Performance

Under the hood well, actually no hood or undercarriage rests Mahindra’s INGLO (Indian Global) EV platform, sends power to the wheels. It’s a skateboard-style modular platform that can accommodate big battery packs and double-motor setups.

The XEV 9e is claimed to be driven by a high-performance electric motor producing more than 200 bhp with 0–100 km/h achievable in less than 9 seconds. That makes it one of the quickest electric SUVs in its segment.

It even gets better as the variant will offered in RWD and AWD models, giving it versatility to cater to city commuters as well as adventurous types. The battery pack, mounted low in the car, helps to give the car a low center of gravity, making use of its sharp steering response and an optimum weight distribution to create excellent road dynamics and cornering confidence.

Long Range and Fast Charging

Mahindra is well aware of this requirement considering the still scarce charging infrastructure in India and has decided to skip 200km EVs and go directly to pure long-range electric vehicles.

That’s why the XEV 9e, at least as it’s been tentatively announced, should pack an 80-kilowatt-hour battery pack and promise a claimed more than 500-kilometer range under ideal conditions on a charge. That puts it on the map, so to speak, along with global EV players like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6.

The car is compatible with 175 kW DC fast charging, enabling 0-80 per cent charge in approximately 30 minutes. Home charging up to 11 kW AC is also supported with a full charge in around 6–7 hours. Mahindra is also creating a network of fast charging stations to support its upcoming EV fleet and the XUV.

Safety and ADAS Technology

Safety is also a strong message that Mahindra is sending with the XEV 9e, which is based on a high-tensile steel architecture, and features a full suite of active and passive safety features. The XEV 9e will reportedly feature ADAS Level 2 functionality such as adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist and blind-spot detection.

Other Safety gear comprises of numerous airbags, a 360-degree camera system, electronic stability control, hill-hold assist, ISOFIX child-seat anchors, and an all-disc braking system. These elements make the XEV 9e safe not just for passengers, but also provide drivers with confidence during both long stints and traffic in the city.

Price and Expected Availability

Although the price hasn’t been made official by Mahindra, industry experts believe that the Mahindra XEV 9e would be priced between ₹28 to ₹35 lakhs (ex-showroom) depending upon the variant. That puts it at the high end of the market for electric-SUV buyers seeking style, performance and sustainability.

The production model is expected to be launched in India in late 2025, with pre-bookings possibly opening a few months ahead of that. The XEV 9e will fight it out against the likes of Tata Avinya, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and MG Marvel R among others, but with competitive pricing and local manufacturing, Mahindra could just have an upper hand in the formula.

Conclusion

At a global technological showcase last week, Mahindra gave a sneak preview of its vision for the future of mobility in India with the Mahindra XEV 9e, an electric SUV. In both build and planned specs, the XEV 9e seems poised to deliver everything a modern buyer wants out of a next-gen electric: futuristic looks, a tech-heavy interior, respectable driving range and respectable performance.

With India’s EV space in full swing anyway, the XEV 9e could easily be the game bowler, Mahindra has been gearing up for. For enthusiasts in search of performance, for families in search of space and comfort, for tech enthusiasts in search of innovation this SUV provides something for just about everyone.
