India’s electric vehicle evolution is already well and truly under way and Mahindra has taken the headlines by storm once again with the launch of the unique Mahindra XEV 9e.

Under the hood well, actually no hood or undercarriage rests Mahindra’s INGLO (Indian Global) EV platform, sends power to the wheels. It’s a skateboard-style modular platform that can accommodate big battery packs and double-motor setups.
The XEV 9e is claimed to be driven by a high-performance electric motor producing more than 200 bhp with 0–100 km/h achievable in less than 9 seconds. That makes it one of the quickest electric SUVs in its segment.

That puts it on the map, so to speak, along with global EV players like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6.
The car is compatible with 175 kW DC fast charging, enabling 0-80 per cent charge in approximately 30 minutes. Home charging up to 11 kW AC is also supported with a full charge in around 6–7 hours. Mahindra is also creating a network of fast charging stations to support its upcoming EV fleet and the XUV.
Safety and ADAS Technology
Safety is also a strong message that Mahindra is sending with the XEV 9e, which is based on a high-tensile steel architecture, and features a full suite of active and passive safety features. The XEV 9e will reportedly feature ADAS Level 2 functionality such as adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist and blind-spot detection.
Other Safety gear comprises of numerous airbags, a 360-degree camera system, electronic stability control, hill-hold assist, ISOFIX child-seat anchors, and an all-disc braking system. These elements make the XEV 9e safe not just for passengers, but also provide drivers with confidence during both long stints and traffic in the city.
Price and Expected Availability
Although the price hasn’t been made official by Mahindra, industry experts believe that the Mahindra XEV 9e would be priced between ₹28 to ₹35 lakhs (ex-showroom) depending upon the variant. That puts it at the high end of the market for electric-SUV buyers seeking style, performance and sustainability.
The production model is expected to be launched in India in late 2025, with pre-bookings possibly opening a few months ahead of that. The XEV 9e will fight it out against the likes of Tata Avinya, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and MG Marvel R among others, but with competitive pricing and local manufacturing, Mahindra could just have an upper hand in the formula.
